16. Disappointed

Files: 16. :: Size: 139.30 MB (mp3) / 391 MB (flac).
Total Time: 01:00:50 hour/s.

Personnel: Morrissey - Vocals :: Alan Whyte - Guitar, Backing Vocals :: Boz Boorer - Guitar :: Gary Day - Bass Guitar :: Spencer Corbin - Drums.

Notes: This concert was not the most memorable one of the year. The crowd was rather unenthusiastic because, this being a festival, there were many people there for other bands, and they didn't necessarily know Morrissey. Also, the strict security prevented all stage climbing, except for one person. Morrissey wasn't very talkative. Throughout the evening he threw a tambourine, some maracas, a British flag and his cobalt shirt into the audience, but they landed in the hands of security who didn't give them to the fans.

The setlist was not as heavy in "Your Arsenal" content as the previous one from five days before. Morrissey only played four songs from the soon-to-be-released album, instead of eight and added earlier familiar single and album tracks like "Interesting Drug", "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys", "Piccadilly Palare" or "Disappointed". He also played the 1991 live staple "The Loop". This marked the only performance of "Piccadilly Palare" and "Disappointed" in 1992, and the last time the former was played live.

Morrissey didn't sing the live-only "No Dad I won't be home tomorrow" lines at the end of "Piccadilly Palare" like he did in 1991. The song's outro was shorter, and ended more abruptly, without the guitar jam typical of 1991 performances. Morrissey changed a line in "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" to "just to make myself attracted to you". Set closer "Disappointed" was not ended abruptly the way it did at the end of the previous tour, but Morrissey still dropped the microphone after being done with it, before exiting. In that song Morrissey sang "Young girl one day I really will be old" and ended with "this is the last song I will be ever sing, oh no".

The manufactured bootleg cd "Dreams I'll Never See" features the full concert in reasonable quality. The source for this is said to be the radio broadcast mentioned above, but it is actually an excellent audience recording. This is very widely circulated on the internet

Notes: Here is the last show of 1980, and there would be no more live performances until April 1981, after Sandinista! was released. This is the second night of their only ever performances at the Hammersmith Palais. It is a nice audience recording taken straight from the rare bootleg LP Clash Songbooks. It seems to be from a master tape or a very low gen. There is no CD art, but I have included scans of the LP cover for reference. Notable features are an early "Somebody Got Murdered", the rarely played "Revolution Rock", and Mikey Dread again on the encore.

Personnel: Bruce Springsteen - lead and backing vocals, guitar, harmonica, piano :: Roy Bittan - piano, keyboards, backing vocals :: Clarence Clemons - tenor, baritone and soprano saxophones, backing vocals, percussion :: Danny Federici - organ, piano, accordion, glockenspiel, backing vocals :: Garry Tallent - bass, backing vocals, percussion :: Steven Van Zandt - guitar, mandolin, backing vocals :: Max Weinberg - drums, backing vocals.

Notes: Springsteen’s 1978 tour in support of his long-delayed and eagerly awaited new album Darkness On The Edge Of Town began in Buffalo, NY on 23 May. Nine of the ten songs (Factory was the exception) were played at that first show, eight of which were receiving their premiere performances. (Something In The Night had first been played at the Monmouth Arts Center in Red Bank, New Jersey on 1 August, 1976.) Kansas City was only the seventeenth concert of a tour which ended on 1 January, 1979 after a hundred and seventeen shows. Consequently, Godfather presents us with very early performances of five songs from Darkness and two other Springsteen compositions (Fire and Paradise By The C, both of which also debuted in Buffalo). The Darkness Tour is often considered to be the one which features Springsteen’s greatest performances.<-(Info taken from collectorsmusicreviews.com).

Notes: Not the complete concert, still missing Saucerful & Echoes... but this is all that is circulated. Wonderful show, and the quality is very nice. One of the minority of commercial roios that I actually like... and so far this is indeed the best source available for this date. The stereo perspective on this tape is amazing! Not much hiss noticable (due, of course, to the 2nd gen tape used), but the loudest volumns are slightly distorted... otherwise great overall.

Notes: This CD came out in 2000 on the Tarantura 2000 label out of Tokyo. It's a version the famous Zeppelin release 'Pb' or 'Pure Blues' which has been released many many times on vinyl and CD. There have been many debated regarding where the original source came from, one theory is that it was a radio broadcast, the other is that it is a raw soundboard tape. The big difference with this release is that it's the first time a TAPE source has been located and used. All previous releases have come from vinyl sources. The producers of this release aquired a 2nd gen tape from an American collector who had the tape stored away since 1983.<-(Info taken from original info file).

Notes: - Good quality early demo versions of songs that would make up DK's "Plastic Surgery Disasters" in its entirety (and associated B-Sides) - Some lyrics and instrumentation are slightly different than official/final versions - Raw mix with bass panned completely to the left channel and guitar on the right sounding like it was recorded live in the studio. - Tracks 16 & 17 most likely recorded March/April 1981.<-(Info taken from original info file).

"Moon Over Marin" shines over the officially released version. It's played faster (at the speed it should be played), and the volume levels are the same for each of the four guys. You can actually hear the bass and drums, and Jello isn't "making this one count." WhaleEyeless

This album is a demo of Plastic Surgery Disasters, with a few other Dead Kennedys songs. The sound quality is probably the best I've ever heard from a demo. The songs are pretty much the exact same, with a few differences, but like I said the songs sound almost identical. The mixing is somewhat primitive, with the vocals and bass in the left channel, with the guitar and drums in the right channel. Overall I'd say this is worth having if Plastic Surgery Disasters is your favorite album (like me) or if you're a huge fan of the Dead Kennedys/bootlegs in general. holmzito

This was the last tour of Scorpions with this line-up, the most classical of all. A lot of Scorpions classical songs were played during that tour, including "Blackout", "Rock you like a hurricane", "Still loving you" and a super hit from those days,"Wind of change". Also we found rocker versions of "Rhythm of love", The Who's "I can't explain", "Hit between the eyes" (from Freejack sountrack) and "The zoo"(wonderful). Great set. Enjoyable. Personnel: Jimmy Page :: John Paul Jones :: Robert Plant :: John Bonham.

Notes: At last, EV has managed to continue its “Soundboard Revolution” by releasing this title featuring a newly surfaced SB from the first show that the band held at MSG on 7 June 1977. As rather expected, its sound quality has turned out to be unfortunately not as good as the SBs made available from a number of shows in 1975 and more or less similar to those already available from some shows in 1977, sounding drier and more compressed. It sounds somewhat stiff. More precisely, I will rank it in between EV's "The Powhatan Confederacy" (from the show on 28 May 1977) and the same label's "Bringing The House Down" (from the show on 26 May 1977). The last one sounds best in terms of the range and the balance among the three titles which were recorded at proximate times. In any event, it is certainly good to have another SB from 1977, especially from one of the shows at MSG, since there was no great audience recording of any of those shows, despite the general belief of people who witnessed that the levels of the band’s performances at those shows were great.
If my memory serves me correctly, Jimmy Page has once revealed that the atmosphere for the first night at MSG in 1977 was "electrifying." Now we can confirm, through this SBD, that the in natural response to such an atmosphere, the band's playing at the show is gutsy and generally excellent from 1977 standard. Every member of the band is in good shape. Now we can confirm that the band's performance at this show should truly be comparable to those at LA Forum that have long been available through better sounding audience recordings. In addition, I note that the acoustic set on CD2 is very well recorded and sounds nice in this SB. However, "Black Country Woman" is cut very short for some unknown reason. It's regrettable.
Notably, "No Quarter" at this show includes another enjoyable "Nutcracker" section. However, the band loses its way in the middle of "Kashmir," as it often happened. The band loses its way again in the latter part of "Rock And Roll" after Robert mistakenly attempted to finish the song earlier. Overall, however, the band’s first return to MSG since February 1975 was definitely a triumph for the band.
The bonus 3CDs feature the newly surfaced audience recording of the show on 10 June 1977, although the paper insert incorrectly refers to "June 6, 1977." At the end of Disc 3, it also includes a SB recording of Jimmy's guitar solo as performed in LA on 23 June 1977. Therefore, the bonus discs are basically the same as what Wendy released in its title "Relic From A Different Dream" but the EV version of the SB is said to be longer than Wendy's. Let’s hope that we would in the near future be able to enjoy the legendary Badgeholders’ show with a SB in its entirety.
The 6CD set version of the title comes in a package similar to that for EV’s “Rampagin' Cajun”. Its outer case features two photos of the Zeppelin ship waiting to take off (with the band members symbols added on its wings) and flying over the skyscraper, while its three-way foldable inner case features several stage and backstage shots of the band. -TH Nov 2010-

In a change to a regular diet of 1975 US Tour soundboards, Empress Valley has managed to pull off a great coup and release a nearly complete soundboard recording for the opening night at Madison Square Garden in New York, on the 7th June 1977. This was the first of six concerts, a run up to the classic six concerts at the hallowed LA Forum on the West Coast just a few weeks later. The band are very pleased and excited to be back in New York, and Plant makes a number of references to this. And also to the Silver Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II back home in Great Britain. The standard of playing is extremely high, The concert starts with a barrage of fireworks, lit by imbeciles, clearly heard on the mikes before the band get on stage. There are some cuts in the soundboard tape, one just before 4 minutes 30 seconds into No Quarter, and Black Country Woman is a bit of a stumble with bits missing. There is another small cut about 14 minutes and 40 seconds into Moby Dick. A great pity that Empress Valley did not use the audience recording to fill the gaps. No doubt, and as is usual these days, dedicated and knowledgeable fans will transform this release and improve and complete it. And then make it available free on the Net. But we must not detract from the importance of this release, and the fact that Empress Valley will no doubt have had to pay a princely sum to the hoarder who has been sitting on this. Full marks to them for this very significant release. The sound quality is in the main fairly well balanced stereo, and extremely good. Some copies come with the audience recording from the 10th June (albeit incorrectly dated 6 June!), a useful bonus. The main release is in a gatefold card release, inside a colour sleeve. -Jules McTrainspotter Nov 2010-.<-(Info taken from led-zeppelin.us).

*** In Constant Motion" World Tour ***

Personnel: David Byrne – vocals, guitar :: Paul Socolow - bass :: Todd Turkisher - drums :: Mauro Refosco - vibes, percussion.

Notes: Here's an excellent 2 CD David Byrne bootleg titled "No Titles Please", which was released in 1995 by label Crystal Cat. It includes a complete show recorded in Sweden during DB's 1994 "In Constant Motion" world tour (25 tracks), and another eight "bonus" tracks (on the second CD) which are from two other shows in Sweden but from 1992. This is definetly one of my favourites DB bootlegs ever (along with the great "Unplugged+More" and Nashville 2001), and although "This Sensuous World" might have better sound quality, this one is just mindblowing, I adore everything about it, from the cover art to the recording itself. It includes great live renditions of tracks such as "Empire", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Stay Up Late", "Love-Building on Fire" and "Blind", which are not very common in DB's setlists (especially for Stay Up Late!), a lot of tracks from the 1994 "David Enryb" album and of course all the TH classics we know and love.<-(Info taken from original info file).
